Learn how to use your bike with transit and you can get anywhere this summer.

Whether you want to head across town to a neighborhood festival or avoid congestions, using your bike with CTA, Pace and Metra will save you money and time. Bikes ride for free!

  • Bikes ride for free at any time on CTA buses.
  • Bikes ride for free on CTA trains outside these hours: 7-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m.

Metra has just announced it will allow five bikes (that's up from three) on all lines except the Electric. The Electric still will allow three bikes. Bikes ride for free on Metra during off-peak hours:

  • Weekday trains that arrive in Chicago after 9:30 a.m.
  • Weekday trains that leave Chicago before 3 p.m. and after 7 p.m.
  • Weekend trains, with the exception of these blackout dates:
    • Blues Fest (weekend only - June 12 & 13)
    • All days during Taste of Chicago (June 25 - July 4)
    • Lollapalooza (August 6 - 8)
    • Air & Water Show (August 14 & 15)
