Friends of the Lakefront Trail

There’s a good chance that one of your favorite places in Chicago is the Lakefront Trail.

This glorious 18-mile-long paved path—built and operated by the Chicago Park District—offers breathtaking views of the Chicago skyline and the big blue lake that it runs alongside.

The Lakefront Trail brings the city together like no other place. People ride the trail, they run it and they stroll it. While it’s one of the city’s primary recreation and exercise hot spots, it’s also a major transportation route. Indeed, much of the year, thousands of people use the path for traveling to work, school and shopping spots.

If you’re a fan of the Lakefront Trail, you’ll want to become a supporter of an Active Transportation Alliance initiative called Friends of the Lakefront Trail. Friends of the Lakefront Trail represents the interests of Lakefront Trail users and works to improve the recreation and transportation conditions on the trail. This initiative focuses on:

  • Pursuing major infrastructure improvements, including the Navy Pier Flyover and the North Lake Shore Drive reconstruction project
  • Monitoring Lakefront Trail issues and projects
  • Providing Lakefront Trail condition updates to trail users
