Keep your community a safe and easy place to walk this winter
There are plenty of ways you can help make your community walkable this winter.
- Shovel your sidewalks! Because it's the neighborly thing to do.
- Thank people for shoveling their sidewalks or remind them to do so. Download and distribute these fliers for Chicago residents and suburban residents. You can print about 100 of these for less than $10! Bring them to your local printer and ask them to print on 30 percent recycled card stock (yellow- or orange-colored paper work best). They will cut them into postcard size, too, if you ask. Then distribute freely! Slip them into mailboxes, slide them into doorjambs or tape them to a door.
- Report it! If you live in Chicago and see a snowy sidewalk, you can report it to 311, Chicago's city services hotline.
- Make it the law. Some towns and cities already have laws on the books. If yours doesn’t, we can help! This is what a sample ordinance looks like. Bring it to your community and contact Active Trans at 312.427.3325 or email@example.com.
