Get farther faster by using your bikes with transit

Bikes ride for free on trains and buses in Chicagoland. Put your bike on transit when the weather turns, you get a flat, or just want to take a rest.

CTA
Read all about CTA's Bike & Ride program.

  • Bikes ride for free at any time on CTA buses.

  • Bikes ride for free on CTA trains outside these hours: 7-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m.

Metra
Read about Metra's bike policy. Metra has just announced it will allow five bikes (that's up from three) on all lines except the Electric. The Electric still will allow three bikes. Bikes ride for free on Metra during off-peak hours:

  • Weekday trains that arrive in Chicago after 9:30 a.m.

  • Weekday trains that leave Chicago before 3 p.m. and after 7 p.m.

  • Weekend trains, with the exception of these 2011 blackout dates:

    • All days during Taste of Chicago (June 24 - July 4)

    • Lollapalooza (August 5-7)

    • Air & Water Show (August 20&21)
